Case Study: Procter & Gamble, Lima, Ohio

Situation: This high-volume Tide plant had product shipping from the manufacturing plant and 7 outside warehouses. While the plant produced more than 95% of the product, its limited warehousing space (less than 2 days of production) meant that only 45% of customer shipments left from the plant. The cost of moving to, and using, outside warehouses was very large.

Impact of AutoScheduler: By intelligent planning, the operation now ships more than 80% of the customer shipments directly from the plant. Additionally, because AutoScheduler sets inventory levels and schedules receipts and shipments, the Lima plant has achieved the following results:

  • Much increased volume goes directly from the line to the truck, bypassing the warehouse completely
  • Cross-docking is up
  • WMS transactions are down more than 33%
